Description |
Colourful Khaki Girls' Club quilt. This quilt is made with assorted blocks, some crazy and some plain. There are a variety of different fabrics used, in all colours that have been pieced together. The names are embroidered onto plain squares and inside the crazy patches. Some of the seams are covered with a variety of embroidery stitches. The cotton backing is brought forward to bind. The Khaki Girls' Club (Red Cross) raised money for the boys overseas in WWI. Each girl collected donations, probably 10 cents per name, and put together their own block. The top fundraiser was most likely Beatrice Hill: her block, right of the centre, contains 120 signatures which raised a then impressive $12. |
