Description |
Wooden candle box (a) and lid (b). The box is rectangular in shape with a pronounced rim around three sides. The box features a sliding lid with tapered sides and a prominent crescent shaped groove near one end. The box and lid are finished with a dark stain. |

This box was used to store candles. Candle boxes served as a practical way to protect candles from vermin, heat and moisture. According to the donor, the box came from the Plympton-Wyoming area and dates back to the 1840s. |
