Description |
Metal hinged box. A once silver metal box, which has oxidized now fully oxidized, looks brown with exposed silver corners and edges. The large hinge on the back runs the whole length of the box and is not effected by rust. The hinge is secured with six nails which have been flattened on the inside of the box. |
Provenance |
The donor reports that this metal box was used to transport the blasting caps, used in shooting a well, to the field site. Oil drillers would only take the specific number of blasting caps, which they would need to detonate a nitroglycerin torpedo. This little box was used since the hinge was aluminum, which would prevent static electricity. It would also be wrapped in newspaper to prevent static electricity. |
