Description |
Large painting depicting a panoramic view of a celery field. The painting features several rows of planted celery along with five people carrying wooden crates to store the freshly cut celery. On the left side, there are two people cutting and bundling the celery, one of the workers is smoking a cigarette. The background features a line of trees, the leaves have been painted various shades of orange and yellow. The painting also includes a wooden frame with a dark finish. |
Provenance |
The Northville Celery Gardens around 1915 was the inspiration for the image. This painting was one of several that hung in the bar of the old Thedford Hotel also known as The Howell House. The artist is unknown but would have been locally hired by the Hotel. |
