Provenance |
The donor's father, Marwood M. Ashton worked for an oil company in St. Thomas called Thayer in the late 20s and early 30s. About 1935 he started his own business which he named Red Rose Gas and Oil. He delivered gas and oil to customers in the St. Thomas and Aylmer area. The donor worked for him in his younger years. The donor's father was taken to court over the name of the company by White Rose. Marwood Ashton won. The donor wasn't sure of the significance of the Red Rose name.
