Description |
Portable writing desk or slope made of walnut. The desk has a double lift top which opens in two sections, one narrow and one wide to reveal a dark brown velvet interior with wood border as well as three separate compartments near the back of the desk to hold writing supplies. The base of the desk is accessed by lifting the middle of the desk to reveal another compartment lined with silver which would have held stationary. The exterior of the desk is adorned with two inlaid nautical stars, one located in the center of the main part of the desk and another on the top flap. On either edge of the desk there are two vertical lines that connection from the top to the bottom and appear as alternating diagonal stripes in different stains of wood ranging from light to dark. This pattern is also reflected along the border of the desk top. The base of the writing slope has a scalloped edge detailing that follows the circumference of the desk. The portable desk also includes a small, silver key (b) on a brown string that fits into the key hole located on the right hand side of the desk. |
