Description |
Tin torpedo tube. This is a long rusted tube with a wire handle on the top with a concave opening. Nitroglycerin would be poured into the opening at the top. The bottom has a blunt nose point and according to the donor this is where you would attach a tail piece, sometimes called a dead man. This was used to help measure the depth and hold the torpedo in place. You would normally attach 20 feet of dead man tail pipe. This would have your torpedo situated right in the pay zone of an oil well at a depth of 345-355 feet. A large torpedo tube would hold approximately 5 quarts of Nitro. |
