Description |
Pair of Pince-Nez style glasses and carrying case. a) Brown rectangular case with light blue silk interior. The case is equipped with two metal bars either side that allow the top part of the case to easily slide from the base. b) Frameless glasses with a metal piece securing the two eye glasses together and acting as a nose piece. On the right side of the glasses, is a long chain that has a metal clip attached to the end. |
Provenance |
These glasses are similar to the Victorian Pince-Nez (French for pinched nose) style glasses that were popular in Europe. This style was worn by both men and women. Since they can be uncomfortable to wear for extended periods if the wrong bridge size is chosen, these eyeglasses were equipped with a ribbon or chain worn around the neck, tied to the buttonhole of a lapel, or attached to a special ear-mount or to a hair-pin.
