Description |
Large wooden plaque commemorating those who fought in World War I. The style of the plaque features a classic architectural design with a dark finish. The top of the plaque is triangular, resembling a pediment. The Lambton County shield is featured inside the triangle. Underneath, there is an inscription that reads "Aug. 4 1914 - War - Nov. 11 1918". The illustration and inscription are both handpainted using yellow paint. The middle of the plaque is adorned with the names of 102 individuals who served during the First War. Seven of the names include a small asterix along with the date and location of death. This section of the plaque is framed by two large columns adorned with elaborate carvings. The design at the top of the column resembles a classic Composite style. The base of the plaque is flat and rectangular. On the back of the plaque, there are two metal brackets near the top to assist with hanging. |
Provenance |
This plaque features a list of men and women who served during the First World War. All of the individuals listed were members of Central United Church. This plaque along with a second identical plaque were produced by the County of Lambton and given to the Central United Church in Sarnia. In 2021, the Central United Church and the Dunlop United Church amalgamated to form the Dunlop Central United Church. |
