Description |
Round, pink gorget. The gorget is made using a marine shell. There is a large hole in the center and two small holes near the top. |
Provenance |
This item was collected in the early 20th century by Dr. Thomas Johnston of Sarnia, later identifications completed by Kathryn Denning in her archaeology master's- level thesis for McMaster University. Denning's paper was written in June 1990, a copy of her work is available on file. This particular gorget is characteristic of the Glacial Kame culture, of which remains have been found in the Sarnia area (Ritchie 1980). Gorgets are usually associated with burial, and were likely items of personal decoration. These items were donated to the Sarnia Public Library and transferred to the Lambton Heritage Museum. |
