Description |
Paperweight with a marble base in off-white, brown and rust. It has a copper name plate on the front and back. The plate on the front reads: Austryackie Walcownie Rur Mannesmanna, Weiden. The plate on the back reads: Zastcpstwo: Towarzystwo Handlowe, Lwov, Romanowicza 1. There is a small round copper disc on both sides with a pattern and initials "MR". On top of the base is a metal copper statue of a man sitting on a pile of pipe. Translation for the Polish words on the paperweight. Mannesmanna is a Germany based company which initially was in the production of seamless piping for the oil industry. Today it is diversified into many metal, steel petroleum and other businesses. In 1908, Mannesmanna purchased a controlling interest in the company of Canadian William McGarvey and Briton John Bergheim. Originally their company had been called Bergheim & McGarvey when it was founded about 1884. It was reorganized and re-named Galician-Carpathian Petroleum Company Ltd.in 1896. |
