Description |
Part of a large wooden oar. This piece of the oar is known as the paddle which is rectangular in shape, narrowing in size towards the handle and widens at the tip. The paddle has been painted a dark green and features the word "Regina" have been stenciled on one side using black paint. There are four newspaper articles pertaining to the Great Storm of 1913 that have been pasted on either side of the stencil. On the back of the oar, there is a nail most likely used for hanging. |

This oar was from the S.S. Regina Lifeboat. It was retrieved from the Lake Huron shore line after the Great Storm of 1913. It hung for many years in the den of Floyd Rumford. Floyd owned a cottage on Ipperwash Beach, served as the Major of Forest and also owned the Kineto Theatre. |
