Mustache cup (a) and saucer (b). The cup is adorned with an embossed forget-me-not pattern around the words "Think of Me". The rim of the cup is painted with gold and there is a mustache shaped shelf attached to the inside of the cup. The saucer is round and features an indentation in the middle along with two golden leaves. |
Provenance |
These tea cups were popular in the late nineteenth century when moustaches were highly fashionable on men. During this time, men styled their mustaches using wax. A porcelain guard in the lip of the cup protected the moustache from steam and tea stains, allowing men to drink tea and keep their facial hair tidy. |
