White glass cream pitcher with gold trim and a single handle. A black line illustration of oil spewing from the top of a drilling rig derrick is on the front of the pitcher. Under the illustration in black lettering is, "Torpedoing an oil well, Petrolea, Canada." |
Provenance |
Donor's husband was an International driller who worked in Venezuela, Trinidad and Barbados. Torpedoing a well, or shooting a well, involved dropping a canister down the well, which was loaded with nitroglycerin and a fuse, to fracture the formation in the oil well. The blast would open up the formation to allow the oil to flow more freely. |
