Description |
Geology display made by a geologist for the Toronto Exhibition. The display shows the rock strata from this area, with small pieces of the actual rock forming the layers, to a depth of 4600 feet (1400 m). There is a fault line near the center with the rock strata shifted on either side of the fault line. The area where oil is found in this area is represented by two horizontal openings in the Dundee rock. A gas storage well is in the Guelph Lockport rock. Different kinds of traps are represented. White storage tanks are on the surface, as well as small cars, trucks and trains. A chart has been added to the side showing the names of the different rock layers and geologic eras. Originally, the display was longer in length, and also had a rotary drilling rig and a pump jack model, on the top, and it could light up. The blue sky background was added in 2008 and updated in 2020. |
Provenance |
The display was built for the Toronto Exhibition by Union Gas. |
