Description |
Wooden pin commemorating the S.S. Hamonic. The pin includes two smoke stacks from a steamship painted black, white and red. Below, the words "S.S. Hamonic" have been featured, each letter has been individually carved in a cursive style. The pin has been painted with a glossy finish and a metal closure has been attached to the back. |
Provenance |
This pin was from the gift shop of the S.S. Hamonic. The original donor was the captain's wife. The S.S. Hamonic was lost in the fire on July 17th, 1945 which began when the Canada Steamship Lines freight sheds at Point Edward caught fire. The flames spread to the Hamonic. Captain Beaton moved his burning steamer away from the docks and towards the shore to ensure the passengers and crew could safely depart the ship. His efforts helped save the lives of all on board. |
