Provenance |
This ink pad belonged to local botanist Dorothy Tiedje who collected various specimens from around Lambton County between the 1960s to the early 2000s. She graduated from Western University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Physics in 1945. She started her career at Dow Chemical in Sarnia. She then spent a year as a physics instructor at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. But her heart lay with the natural environment. Tiedje loved living things and developed an interest in botany. She joined the Field Botanists of Ontario and Lambton Wildlife groups. Tiedje began her collection of botanical specimens in about 1964. After collecting in the field, Tiedje pressed and dried the samples. She mounted them on paper sheets with the species name, collection date, and location details. Tiedje's husband, John, was an important part of her work. He helped find specimens and photograph plants in the field. He also co-authored the report Vascular Plants of Lambton County, Ontario with his wife. |
