Handmade red and white signature quilt. The quilt features thirty blocks of white cotton adorned with a small red embroidered circle in the center. Around each circle, there are a series of handwritten names embroidered clockwise using red thread. Each square has been pieced together and outlined with a red embroidered chevron stitch, leaving a narrow white border around the edges. There is a quilted design resembling a series of overlapping rainbows that cover the background of the quilt. This design appears to have been hand stitched. |

This quilt was handmade in 1924 by the Shetland Women's Institute and features the names of several local residents. The quilt was given to Betty Elliot by Charles and Willa Craig who were from the Shetland Area. The quilt was passed down to her daughter who eventually donated the quilt to the Lambton Heritage Museum. Two of the blocks include initials rather than full names along with popular names of baseball players such as "Babe Ruth"and "Ty Cobb". These sections also include other randomized names which may have been a way to fill in blank spaces. |
