Provenance |
This item was given as a gift to the British and Canadian soldiers during the South African War. The tins were distributed in December of 1899 following the disastrous "Black Week" of British defeats. Chocolate was donated by Cadbury, Rowntree and Fry & Sons to fill the tins. Soldiers often sent their tins home to loved ones or sold them for profit. |
