Description |
Colourful cotton quilt depicting a Grandmother's Garden pattern. The quilt includes small hexagon pieces and small florets that are laid out in an interesting star design. The pattern is framed by a wide white border. Some of the hexagon pieces include hand embroidered stitching around the edges. The quilting style is known as echo quilting which includes a zig-zag design through the border. The edges are finished with white binding and a thin layer of cotton batting has been adding between the front and back layers. |
Provenance |
This quilt was constructed between 1940 and 1950. It was made by the donor's Great Aunt Kathleen Embley (1928 - 2009) and Grandmother Ellen (nee Edlington) Anderson (1912 - 1999). This quilt has travelled the world. It was started in England where the hexagon pieces had been cut from remnant pieces of material used for family members dresses. The assembly was finished in Canada, while the quilting was carried out in Brazil. |
