Description |
Dark steel calipers used for measuring, usually diameter or thickness. Consists of two fixed pointed legs attached to a round steel button. HMK is stamped on one side and 1841 is stamped on the other. It is not certain if 1841 is the year made or some other connotation. |
Provenance |
Used by Hector MacKenzie, the founder of the Oil Well Supply Co. in Petrolia. The machine shop came into being in 1864 when it began manufacturing and supplying drilling and pumping equipment to the new oil fields. |
