Description |
Tan clay figurine representation possibly of Pataikos, a minor deity from late in ancient Egypt's history. It appears to come from a single-piece mould and back is unfinished. The figure is bandy-legged, with hands positioned at either side of a bulging belly. The headdress is rounded. The top of the back side is black. |
Provenance |
Purchased as a memento by John Growder who drilled for oil in Egypt for eight years, from around 1923. Pataikos was a lesser deity often depicted on amulets, who became popular after 1000 BC. He is usually shown with bandy legs, somewhat like the dwarfish god Bes. |
