Description |
Small, clear glass bottle advertising a local business. The glass is tall and rectangular in shape with rounded corners, a short neck and a narrow opening at the top with a cork stopper. On the front of the bottle, there is a paper label that reads "McRobie. Chemist & Optician. Petrolia, Ont." written using blue lettering. On the opposite side of the bottle, there are embossed numbers measuring the contents, located on the left and right hand side. |
Provenance |
John McRobie (1872 - 1949) opened a pharmacy store in Petrolia, Ontario in the early 1890s. The 1891 Census Record cornfirms this, listing him as a "druggist" at the age of 19. On September 22nd, 1898 he married Florence "Flora" Shuttleworth (1874 - 1964). They would eventually have three children: John (1899), Marion (1901) and Edward "Ned" (1912). By 1925, he applied to practice Optometry and was approved on April 14th, 1925. He worked at the store up until 1934. |
