Provenance |
In 1833, Marcus Samuel expanded his business by adding seashells to his antiquities. The demand was so great that he began importing seashells from the Far East, laying the foundations for an import-export business. His sons took over the business and in the 1880s they became interested in the oil exporting business, which grew into one of the world's leading energy companies, Shell. |
