Provenance |
This signature quilt was made around 1925 in a one-room elementary school (Jura S.S.#10) located in Bosanquet Township. It was made as a fundraiser. A fee of possibly 10¢ to 25¢ was charged to have your name embroidered on it and then it was raffled. It was won (we believe) by a cousin Clay Thomas in Forest/Petrolia and when he passed away the quilt was passed on to his brother, Dr. Stan Thomas of Medina, New York and then passed to another cousin, John Russell, of Bosanquet Township, and ended up in Streetsville Ontario with his daughter, Wendy (Russell) Johnson, who owned it until donating the quilt to the Lambton Heritage Museum. The family names of grandparents Smith and McBryan are found in block 4. Also the names of many aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles and other relations of the Smith - McBryans are found throughout the blocks of this quilt. |
