Description |
Glossy black and white three-quarters of Marlene Gladwish and an unidentified woman. The woman on the left has dark hair, and is seated at a table with tags, a Bible and a box on it. The photograph is taken above her right shoulder, and so her face cannot be seen. Marlene is standing on the other side of the table, and is handing something over. She has blonde hair, is wearing eyeglasses, a sweater vest and shorts, with a purse on her left shoulder. Written on the back is "Aug 5, 1976 3x6 1/2 pg. 17 Mrs. Marlene Gladwish liquor license vote - [?] at Gerald La Belle school." This photograph was published in the Sarnia Observer on August 5, 1976, on page 17, with the associated headline, "Liquor Stores, Lounges Approved." The caption of the photograph reads, "Mrs. Marlene Gladwish receives her ballots in the liquor licence act vote in Moore Township Wednesday. Residents voted on eight measures governing different methods of liquor distribution and consumption. Mrs. Gladwish was voting at the Gerald LaBelle separate school." The article discusses "the sale of liquor" in Moore Township and the vote in a "plebiscite." Eight questions were voted upon but only 2 were approved. The article also discusses how many voters appeared as well. This changed the townships status from dry (what it had been since prohibition) to wet. |
