Description |
Enlarged copy of a postcard. It shows an image of the Canadian Oil refinery in Petrolia, Ontario with some underground storage tanks in the foreground, a building with three round chimneys near the centre and numerous barrels on the ground. In the distance, three pole derricks can be seen. The photo was taken prior to 1911 when the postcard was sent and marked with a postal stamp. The image of the postcard is smaller than the piece of paper it is printed on. |
Provenance |
When Canadian Oil Companies formed in 1908, its main asset was the Petrolia Refinery that the Canadian Oil Refining Company had built in 1901. Canadian Oil closed the Petrolia Refinery in 1952. Concurrent with the closure of the Petrolia facilities, Canadian Oil built a new refinery at Corunna, Ontario, just south of Sarnia. On 25 September 1952, the new $23 million Sarnia facility was opened. |
