Burgundy photo album with gold accents. The pages are thick cardboard with openings for photos. Only one page has photographs glued to it and the other photos and items are loose. a). Photograph album with three pictures glued to the 16th page. The top is a postcard of a Park at Yokohama with Japanese people on a bridge crossing a creek in the park. The bottom left photo is a fellow, looks like Fred or Jay Zimmer, on a motor bike with a youngster in the sidecar. The bottom right photo is a man and woman standing on the step of an open shelter. The man looks like Jay Zimmer. b). Black and white photo, 21cm x 17cm, of 14 International Drillers posing on the steps of a structure in Borneo. They are all wearing white muslin suits. Written on the back: Fred & Jay Z taken in Borneo. Front Row: J.B., Gus Slack, Fred Webb, James McCrie, John Brown, Charles MacAlpine. Back Row: Ben Osborne, Wallace Saunders, James Rawson, Tom Hamilton, Harry Milligan, Fred Zimmer, W. Eady, Jay Zimmer. c). Newspaper clipping of previous photo, 21cm x 15cm. Uncle Fred and Uncle Jay Zimmer are identified. Caption: Here is a picture that comes to the express from Sangga-Sangga, in Dutch East Borneo. Sent from the east coast of Borneo on December 1st by A.M. Slack, it reached The Express on January 27th. Mr. Slack writes: "Being a reader of The Express, I thought th accompanying photograph might be of interest. The gentlemen are all from Petrolea, Ont., engaged in the oil business here. Photo taken by Tan Hood Tee" d). Similar black and white photo, 15.8cm x 12cm, as previous with 15 men posed on the steps of a structure with a verandah in Borneo. Four of the men are wearing dark muslin suits and the others are wearing white muslin suits. Signs are propped up on either side of the group. Left one says, " Rolling Home Soon, Hurray!" with seven initials in two columns followed by 11.1.08. Right one says, "Sakced by God" with 11 initials in two columns followed by 8.1.08. A note attached to the left side identifies Uncle Fred, top left and Uncle Jay, bottom left. e). Exact copy of d). f). Black and white photo, 20cm x 15.1cm, of a crowd of International Drillers in Borneo. The front group seem to be a baseball team and are seated on the ground with a baseball balancing on top of two propped bats. The next group are the spectators sitting on chairs. Standing are more spectators and some locals. A large building with a wrap-around verandah is in the background. g). Black and white photo, 16cm x 11.8cm, of two men with horses. The men are wearing dark muslin suits with one pith helmet sitting on the horses' back and the other propped against his leg. A structure on stilts is behind them with a verandah and a thatched roof. Uncle Fred Zimmer is identified as the man on the right. h). Black and white photo, 15.8cm x 12cm, of a community taken from a higher elevation. A large storage tank is in the right centre with another tank in the far background. Work buildings are spread out near the storage tank and five residences are atop a slight hill beyond them. i). Black and white photo, 15.8cm x 12cm, of two drilling rigs and supporting structures amid a densely forested area. A storage tank is partially visible in the background. j). Black and white photo, 16.4cm x 12cm, of a drilling rig with a thatched roof also covering the derrick. The workers and the driller are posing at the front of the rig. The International driller is not identified. k). Black and white photo, 21.7cm x 16.3cm, on a piece of black paper of the inside of a workshop with five men posing amid the equipment. No one is identified. l). Black and white photos, 21.7cm x 16.3cm, on each side of a piece of black paper. One photo is a long white cement building with arched windows and doors. Eight unidentified International Drillers are posing in front of the building. A small mountain is beyond the building. From another photo in the collection, the building is said to be the workers' quarters. The photo on the other side is a river with high rocky sides. Water is flowing out of round holes along the sides. The photo is very faded. m). Black and white photos, 21.7cm x 16.3cm, on each side of a piece of black paper. One photo is a river with high rocky sides with a waterfall coming from a crevice. The photo on the other side is of a building with arched window and doors decorated with mosaic tiles and patterned cement work. n). Black and white photograph, 17.3cm x 11.7cm, on a black cabinet card 25.2cm x 20cm of 11 women wearing nursing uniforms posing on a staircase. Two men are at the bottom of the stairs identified as Criss Anderson, day orderly and Joe Begg, operating room orderly. The women are identified with numbers on the photo as 1. Miss Potter, 2. Miss Gilbert, 3. Miss McLister, 4. Miss Greer, 5. Miss Woodward, 6. Miss O'Donnell, 7. Miss Kissack, 8. Miss Wyard, 9. Miss Younghusband, 10. Miss Gary, 11. Miss Peterson. She has also noted their nicknames. o). Black and white photograph, 17.3cm x 11.7cm, on a black cabinet card 25.2cm x 20cm of a hospital room with three beds, a nurse, two patients and a visitor. p). In memoriam card, 22.8cm x 7.5cm, in two pieces for John B. Shaw who was born March 12th, 1820 and died January 7th, 1882. Two Scripture verses are on the other piece. q). Letter, 11.5cm x 17.6cm, to the Council of Moore concerning deepening a ditch near their property. It is not known who is the writer. |
