Queen Elizabeth II School Tree Planting |

Description |
The photograph is taken portrait style, rather than the typical landscape style that the majority of the images are taken in. Grade one pupils of Queen Elizabeth II School planted a tree in Centennial Park. They bought it from the parks board, who passed the money on to the Centennial Park Fund. It is a nine-year old silver maple and stands there, proud and tall. Pupils said they wanted to give a tree to the park and were encouraged by their teacher, Mrs. Nancy Miller. The 31 pupils (14 boys, 17 girls) agreed to earn the money and collected $10 for the tree. The photograph features about 25 of the pupils gathered around watching as they plant the tree. On the left side of the image there is an individual who is a head taller than the children, she is likely the students teacher. Also visible on the left half of the image is the tree that the children were planting. It is a very thin and tall tree. The children are gathered around as one of the students digs a hole for the tree. In the center of the image a boy in a knit, patterned sweater and slacks can be seen standing with his back to the camera. On the right side of the image a little girl can be seen raising her arm to the sky as if she is waving at the camera man. She is wearing a dress and has short hair. |
