Description |
William H. McGarvey Warden, 1879 Born in Hull, Quebec, November 27th, 1843. Moved West in 1857. Settled in Wyoming. Entered business there in 1861. Moved to Petrolia in 1866, and was its first Reeve in 1867. Mayor of the Town in 1875-1876. Contested the West Riding unsuccessfully in 1879. Was a manufacturer and oil producer. He acquired great wealth, but lost heavily after the invasion of Galicia in the war of 1914, where his property was chiefly located, which doubtless helped to end his life. He died November 27, 1914. Buried in Vienna, Austria. |
