Description |
This is a photo album containing 38 professional photographs, mostly Carte-de-Visite styled. Many of the images are of one or two individuals standing in a photo studio, dressed formally and posing neutrally for the photo. Notable photos include a young girl standing outside in the snow, a young child sitting with a toy doll, a few images of infants and toddlers in strollers, many individual portraits or couple photos, one of two men sitting next to a table with one reading a book, sibling photos, one of a man in a military uniform that has been coloured red, and one of a young girl laying on a rug with another portrait in her lap. The only photograph that has been identified is the last photo which includes Fred Carmain standing next to his wife in March of 1876. There are two notes in the beginning of the album. One is written in pencil and reads, "Found in box marked Harkness pictures". The second note is in dark ink and reads, "Mrs. John Dalziel, Port Franks, Nov 2, 1871. With A. Willsons Compts." |
