Description |
Black and white photograph mounted on a cabinet card of a group of 28 people posing in two rows on the edge of a tennis court. There are 13 in the back row and 15 in the front row. The back row is standing on a bench with some holding tennis rackets. Frieda MacIntosh is identified as being in the centre front row and her husband Carlton (holding a cigarette to the right. Taken in Ropienka likely taken between 1905-1914. The men are all wearing overcoats and hats while the women are wearing long dresses with a coat. Written on the back: Frieda MacIntosh, front row, married, wedding ring (wearing), no hat, centre, dark blouse with 5 white buttons. Carlton MacIntosh on her left with cigarette. Europe - Austria. Sometime between 1905 to 1914, very likely before children born, probably closer to 1905 plus time, not time of 1914 when war broke out. |

Carlton MacIntosh was an International driller. The donor is the granddaughter of Carlton & Frieda MacIntosh. Carlton's father, George, took the family to Austria in 1887 where they teamed up with their Lambton cousins, the Perkins, to form Perkins & MacIntosh Petroleum Tool and Boring Company Ltd. Carlton worked in Java in the early 1900s for Royal Dutch Petroleum Company. |
