Black and white photograph postcard, with a gold trim border, of the Dewar Block in Oil Springs, including the Bank of Toronto and the Hartley grocery store to the right of the bank. There is a 1908 one cent stamp on the postcard which is postmarked from Oil Springs. It is addressed to Mrs. W.H. Haney, 276 George St. Sarnia, Ont. Message: Sept 9, Dear Sister, We are all well. Mother arrived all O.K. Mae. |
Provenance |
The Dewar Block is unknown when it was built. The east half of the building was a Drug store and operated for many years by A.W. (Abbey) Dewar who sold his business to Bill Burgess in 1944. The west half was the Toronto Dominion Bank, with upper floor apartments. The building burned down February 9th, 1945. |
