Black and white photo of the elevator at Oil Springs on fire with black smoke. The building is just starting to burn with the smoke coming from the far side. Rows of tiles are stacked up like a fence in front of the building from the tile yard business beside it.A small water tower is at the right of the image. Provenance |
The Elevator, Flour and Feed Mill on James Street in Oil Springs was built by Malcolm Dunlop in 1901. He sold the business to David Lambert, whom with his sons Ruben and George made both bread and pastry flour. Harry Penfound bought the business in 1918. The elevator burned in August 1931. Penfound rebuilt, but only the chopping mill in the following year. |
