Black and white photograph on a beige cabinet card from the collection of international drillers, Stuart and James Nisbet in Borneo. A large group of International drillers are posing beneath a wooden shelter with a corrugated metal roof. Most of the group are standing, two are on horses and there are two cars as well as a motorcycle with sidecar. There is a hydro pole on the right, and an oil derrick in the background, left. They are mostly wearing white suits and pith helmets. Handwritten below the photo, "Miri Sarawak 1922, Dist. No. 2 tool house" and "Drillers at #2 Godown" is written above. The bottom right corner of the cabinet card is stamped with "Sarawak Studio, Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo". |
Provenance |
Brothers Stuart and James Nisbet originally from the Petrolia area, were International Drillers in Borneo from 1919 to 1923 and James went back with his wife until 1929. |
