No. 2 Division of Beaver Hose Co. Sarnia (firemen), ca. 1890. The volunteer firemen were first organised in 1851. The St. Clair Hose Co. was formed about 1868. In 1877 the name was changed to Beaver Hose Co.. By 1881 there were 50 men in three divisions. Identification (L-R): Front - W.F.B. Coulter, Geo. Tanton, Jos. Peterson, Samuel P. Fowler, Robt. Hamilton, Jos. Hamilton, Alex Kidd. 2nd row - Geo. Wenino, Jos. McColl, F. French, G. Staniland. 3rd row - Wm. Fowler, Jos. Barr or Burr, Danl. Parsons, Fred Kelly. Back - Peter Styles. |

In 1947, the late H.F Holland reached out to the community to source and collect photographs of former teams and sporting events to be displayed in exhibition at the new Sarnia Arena. Mr. Holland was ultimately turned down for the display. However, he continued to gather materials with the encouragement and assistance of local commercial photographer Doug Paisley, who re-photographed the old pictures so the originals could be returned to their owners. The collection grew to include people, buildings, events and more, dating back to the mid 1800's across the County. For some of these original images, this may be the only remaining documentation of them. |
