Description |
Glossy black and white photo of Dave Elliot (sitting on the plank) and Rob Smith (standing). They are on scaffolding in front of the face of a brick building. Dave is looking down at the camera, although his body is facing the building. Rob is facing the left, but is looking above the camera. Written on the back is "June 29-30/73 Sarnia Observer pg 10 Honest John's 2nd Hand Store - Petrolia - 1970s (beside Chinese Rest.) Grant Facade - Painting. 3x48 County Norwich. Opportunities for Youth Projects. Received a Grant to Finish the Norwich Plan for Summer." The associated caption for the photo reads, "Those scaffolds that can be seen along Petrolia St. in Petrolia mark the resumption of the Norwich plan for the summer. Paint crews will attempt to finish the Opportunities for Youth Project which entails dabbing a fresh coat of paint onto building fronts along the street. Eight are involved in the $7,850 project. Most of the grant money will be going towards salaries of $90 a week for post-secondary students and $70 a week for secondary students. Store owners supply the paint for the project. In each case, painting involves one color for the brick surface and another color for wooden trim and windows. Color schemes attempt to reflect the character of the building. Shown in the photo ABOVE, Dave Elliot and Rob Smith work on one of the buildings involved" |
