Description |
Glossy black and white upper body photograph of (from right to left) Marie Balaka, Maureen Prentice, Sharen Buckle, June McNeil, Linda Dunn, Valerie McGowan, and Marshall Gowland. Marshall is wearing a suit, and is talking into a microphone on the right side. He is turned slightly to the left and is looking in that direction. The girls are all wearing dresses, and standing in a line. They are all looking at Marshall, with the exception of June, who is staring at the camera. There are more children in the background, and cut off from the photograph. The image was taken on a field, and football goal posts are visible in the back. On the back, "B" and the date are written. This photograph was published in the Sarnia Observer on July 15, 1958, on page 9, with the names as the caption. The associated article is titled "Playground Voters Hold 'Civic Elections.'" The body of the text describes the inaugurations of the youth votes, as sponsored by the Sarnia Recreation commission. 2,000 were in attendance. There was also a parade. The winners of these elections received a crest, and responsibilities in keeping playgrounds safe. |
