Black and white copy of a photograph of an African chieftain and a boy. The chieftain is wearing a beaded collar on a bare chest, fabric wrapped around is waist like a sarong and tied on the side, striped socks and patterned shoes. He is wearing a top hat and holding a staff. His foot is resting on the step of a platform holding a chair that would be used by a shoe shiner. |

The image was found to be a copy of a 1900s postcard titled, "Calabar Chief" from Nigeria. It was used to illustrate a donation of a similar necklace in our collection. |
