Receipt issued by F.W. Winnett of Oil Springs, Ontario to Byers Bros. on October 1, 1929 in the amount of $28.46. The business performed machine work of all kinds. The shop was built at the corner of Kelly Road and Victoria Street in Oil Springs about the year 1885 by Edward Winnett of Petrolea (originally from London, Ont.). After a few years Mr. Winnett moved back to Petrolia, leaving his eldest son, Frederick Walter, to run the shop in Oil Springs. Fred was only about sixteen at the time but he set to with a will and succeeded in building up a thriving business. About 1915 it was named the Dominion Boiler Works. |
