Telegraph sent to Peter Growder signed by "Hutchings" on June 12, 1916, from Anyox, British Columbia, letting him know that his brother Alex had drowned on June 7, 1916, and that his body was just recently found the evening before. This telegraph also tells Peter that an inquest or investigation into the death of Alex will be held this same day, and that the funeral will be held the following evening. This message was received and sent to Peter through the Canadian Pacific R'Y Co's. Telegraph Night Letter Program. On the back of the telegraph the terms and conditions and cost of the Night Letter program are written. These terms and conditions were written and signed by Jas. Kent, who was the manager of telegraphs for the company. A transcription of this document is available in the media file and accession folder. Alex Growder, from Petrolia, was working as a blacksmith in British Columbia. |
