Scope & Content |
Letter written from Queensland, Australia on September 10, 1916 written by Catherine Growder on behalf of both her and Archie to his brother and sister. This letter was written in response to two other letters that they had written them previously which asked about how their family are doing. This letter reveals that Archie has been very sick lately with a cold and back pain so he was sent to a doctor who was able to make him feel better. Catherine also writes about how Alex's death has affected Archie and how sad he is feeling after losing his brother at such a young age. Catherine then writes about how tough farming has been for them and everyone this year and how much rain they have had, but all of their plants and the houses landscape is looking "nice and green" because of the rain. Catherine then writes about how their son, young Archie, recently received a letter from his Uncle Jack telling the family that he was going to England. This leads to a discussion about the War (World War One) and how the Allies are finally providing the German army with some resistance and how the war may hopefully be over soon. The transcription of this document is available in the media file and the accession folder. Archie Growder was an International Driller in Borneo and Australia. |
