Scope & Content |
Letter written February 23, 1905 on letterhead of the "Sandon Hotel" in Sandon, B.C. by Alex Growder to his mother letting her know how he is doing and wondering the same about her. Alex tells his mother that he has been working in the mines lately and how he has started to take risks in the mining business and has signed a lease with another mining company. Alex explains that in order to make big money "in this country" you need to be willing to take the risks which is what he has been doing as of late. Alex also explains that the mine he is working at currently is under his management and that he is responsible for making sure the company doesn't loose any money. Alex also apologies to his mother for the possible long response time between letters because he can't remember if he had responded to his mother's previous letter or not, he also explains that the same confusion has been made with one of the letters that his sister Annie wrote to him as well. A transcription of this record is available in the media file and the accession folder. Alex Growder was born near Petrolia and went to British Columbia to find work. He drowned there in 1916. |
