Newspaper clipping from the Advertiser-Topic dated November 29, 1923 from Petrolia. There are two items of interest. The first is titled, M.P.P. for Sudbury. It is about Alex and Phillis Johnston's grandson, Elwood Moore. It reads: Mr. Elwood Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Moore Eureka St., and a former Petrolia C.S.E.T. worker, has been elected to represent Sudbury district at the Ontario Older Boys' Work Parliament to be held in Toronto next month. Mr. Moore, who is studying for a Methodist minister, has been preaching in Northern Ontario with headquarters at High Falls, since last July. He is an inspired Tuxis Boy and while in Petrolia was leader of the Lightning Methodist Trail Ranger Camp and a member of the Spartan Tuxis Square. This is a high honour that has been bestowed upon Elwood and his many friends are pleased to hear of his success. The second item starts immediately below and is titled, Will Drill in S. America but is not complete: The following drillers have signed up with W.W. McRae, local representative for the Royal Dutch Shell Co., to drill in South America on a three year contract. They are now waiting for their passports: John Brooks, Jas. Stevens, Sarnia; Alfred Brownlee, Wyoming; Morley Evoy, Roland Blackwell, George Peat, Orville Wolsey, Richard McCort, W. Rawson,Jr., Henry Gregory, Wm. Kay, Oil Springs. All the above have been in foreign fields, Brooks, having been in Borneo, Sumatra, Egypt, South America; Steven in Trinidad and West Africa; Rawson, California or Oregon; Gregory in Trinidad and Venezuela; Evoy in Persia; McCort in Burma and Mexico; Blackwell in Africa. (The rest has been cut off). |
