Letter written to Miss Jennie Sutcliffe of Forest Ontario from Robert Rawlings while he was in the Dutch East Indies as an International Driller. It was sent from Palembang, Sumatra on September 5, 1901. He describes two great affairs that were held recently, the feast of the Chinese Dragon and the celebration of th Queen of Holland's birthday. He tells her he has most of his stuff packed and loaded onto boats ready to start his journey home in two or three days. He replies to her question from a previous letter of the government configuration of Sumatra, Java and Borneo. He explains to her of his career ambitions and the continuation of their relationship. The envelope has postal stamps from Palembang, Singapore and Forest with the remnants of a red wax seal. The letter was received in Forest on October 13, 1901. |

13.4cm x 21cm letter folded into a 14cm x 9cm blue envelope. Two of the pages have been folded from a larger sheet of paper and written on both sides creating eight pages and one half sheet is written on both sides creating pages 9 and 10. |
