Handwritten letter from James Schroder, Portsmouth, Ontario dated June 12,1884 to Alex (Johnston of Oil Springs). James Schroder is his father-in-law. He writes about being discouraged over the wells the last four months of 1883 but they have redeemed themselves pumping about 10 barrels a day the last two months. He talks about a conversation he had with a fellow last summer, while he was waiting for mail in front of Yates, about the cost of jerking wells and was surprised to see his cost was much more. He then talks about deaths of William Coverdale and Mrs. Wartman and Mrs. Waters. On the last page he writes about their garden and wonders if he knows if Joe has sold his mansion. |
